The Dumont Dunes Off-Highway Vehicle Area is an exciting and remote area for off-highway vehicle recreation. The region is easily recognized from a distance by its distinctive sand dunes. The elevation here varies from 700 feet, at the river, to 1200 feet at the top of Competition Hill, the tallest of the dunes.
From Las Vegas, 15 south to Baker. From LA, 15 north to Baker.
Interstate 15 to Baker, CA then north on Highway 127 for 33 miles. A roughly 2 mile dirt/gravel road will take you across a small stream and past a Ranger Information/Pay station, and then up a plateau to the camping area.
The riding area is south of the Amargosa River and east of State Highway 127. There are two ways of getting to the dunes. The Little Dunes (some call it Little Dumont) staging and camping area is directly off Highway 127. One mile north of here, just off Highway 127, is Dumont Road, a dirt road which follows and crosses the river, leading to the main field of large dunes.
Oceano Dunes is located just off Highway 101 on the beach south of San Luis Obispoand north of Santa Barbara. To come out and ride with Renner and friends, take highway 101 and exit at 187A, Grand Ave. Head west towards the beach and drive through the town of Grover Beach. Grand Ave will end at a State Park checkpoint, where you will need to pay a day rate for beach access / parking. Turn left on the beach, head past Vendor Row and you will see the Red Bull Oasis right where the Sand Highway begins.
The top of these tall dunes offers spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. The area is accessed from Umpqua Beach #2 Parking lot, and Umpqua Beach #3 Day use.
From Reedsport: south 2 miles on US 101 to Winchester Bay. Turn right at Pelican Market onto Salmon Harbor Drive.
Renner and friends will be camping at Half Moon Bay, 4 miles south of Reedsport inWinchester Bay. This is the perfect campground for the off-road enthusiast as it is located adjacent to the staging area for the Dunes National Recreation Area. The campground is close to ocean beaches, crabbing, whale watching and the Umpqua Lighthouse.
It’s not every day you get to ride and hang out with the best, so don’t miss this opportunity! There is no rigorous schedule, no info booths and no egos – just pure freeriding during the day and chilling during the night.
Load up the trucks, bikes and haulers and come be a part of the action.
