Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour 2010 / Cairo / Great Sphinx of Giza
Sphinx Crowns Jones Cairo Champion:

The Great Sphinx of Giza and 10,000 fans cast a keen eye over the 12 best FMX athletes on the planet on Friday night. At the second stop of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour 2010 desert winds, sand and temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius pushed man and machine to the limit, with Adam Jones (USA) emerging victorious in front of one of the world’s most spectacular backdrops.

CAIRO (EGY). Directly in front of the only remaining Wonder of the Ancient World, the Great Sphinx of Giza built between 2700 and 2600 BC, it was the American Adam Jones who destroyed his 11 opponents’ dreams of victory by progressing all the way to the Final, where he tricked and flipped his way past the winner of the season opener in Mexico City (MEX), the Norwegian Andrè Villa, to win the event.

“This really is a dream come true for me. The conditions in Cairo weren’t easy, but my final run was perfect, and that meant the judges were then on my side,” grinned the 26-year-old.

In front of the 73.5-metre-long and 20-metre-high Great Sphinx of Giza, it was “only” the nerves of the top freestyle motocross riders from Europe, Asia, America and Australia that crumbled away as they sailed 15 metres high and 30 metres in length through the warm night air. All of the members of the international FMX elite were in agreement: “To be able to jump at such a unique location is just incredible.”

After two of the six stops comprising the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour 2010 it is Andrè Villa who continues to lead the overall standings. The next event is scheduled to take place on Moscow’s Red Square (RUS) on 26 June 2010.

Final Results: Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour 2010, Cairo, Egypt:

1. Adam Jones (USA), 2. Andrè Villa (NOR), 3. Nate Adams (USA), 4. Robbie Maddison (AUS), 5. Levi Sherwood (NZL), 6. Eigo Sato (JAP), 7. Jim McNeil (USA), 8. Libor Podmol (CZE), 9. Lance Coury (USA), 10. Daice Suzuki (JAP), 11. Petr Pilat (CZE), 12. Nick DeWit (RSA)

Here is a video from last season at ocotillo wells. Luke Cure gets some killer video shots…
by: Steve “Hog” Haughelstine
Last season I started to work with a kid by the name of Luke Cure, an up and coming videographer and editor from Valley Center California. Luke seemed to have a great eye and kind of a different style of editing. He mainly filmed mini bikes, then moved on to big bikes. Now he has moved on to cars, and shooting car commercials in Denver Colorado! Well luke, wish you could have made some more videos for FreeRideMX, and it is always cool to see dirt bike riding through the eye of another person with the same passion. So here is the remix from the original video posted here: http://freeridemx.com/index.php/site/entry/last-trip-to-ocotillo/

The good ol days of moto videos, SMP Disturbing the Peace….
by: Steve Haughelstine
I grew up watching videos like these. Guys like Jeff Emig, Jeremy McGrath, Tommy Clowers, Seth Enslow, and so on were heros, freeriding and having a good ol time racing and having fun on their dirt bikes. Seems like these days no big name rider will go on a riding trip or film trip unless there is a paycheck involved, guess thats just how lame the Motocross industry has become. I understand that guys have to make money, but what happened to just riding your bike to have some fun? I guess times have changed, now just prove me wrong. Here at FreeRideMX.com we never puss out, and are always down to go ride! Until our next filming adventure, take a glimpse back in time when motocross was about riding and having fun, and just to show you how old this video is, James Stuart is only 10 years old in this video! Wow!

With a mix of golden and green grass, wet dirt from a fresh rain, and puffy clouds, this was yet another epic day of riding with the best freestyle motocross riders in the world. One of the coolest things about Fitzland is the diversity of riders, from young up and comers like Bryce Hudson, to top veterans like Nate Adams, Twitch, and Robbie Maddison. They all compete against eachother, but are all buddies that love riding together. Take a look at this video I put together from the other day of shredding over at Jimmy Fitzpatrick’s place:

Villa New FMX Hero as 42,000 Defy Rain Norway’s Andre Villa pulled off a surprise win at the first stop of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour 2010 in Mexico City on Friday evening. With the main event forced to be abandoned due to extreme weather conditions, the Norwegian used his win in Qualifying to claim victory in the city’s Plaza de Toros Monumental.

MEXICO CITY (MEX). A huge 42,000-strong crowd packed the arena to cheer on the twelve FMX toreros on their high-octane steeds as they flew through the largest bullfighting ring in the world. On kickers catapulting the athletes 15 metres into the air, the best riders on the planet - including Corinth Canal and Tower Bridge hero, Robbie Maddison (AUS) - showcased the very latest freestyle motocross tricks. The first stop of the Red Bull X-Fighters 10th anniversary year saw a Norwegian rider win an event for the first time. Andre Villa benefitted from freak weather conditions including torrential rain and lightning to take the win after the competition had to be abandoned after the first round. “I have trained hard my whole life and made so many sacrifices for this,” explained the delighted 27- year-old. The remaining spots on the podium went to reigning World Tour Champion Nate Adams (USA) and Robbie Maddison (AUS), with Spain’s Dany Torres taking fourth place despite being forced to land his tricks with just one hand due to a fractured wrist. Nate Adams (USA) had warm words of congratulation for the victor: “Andre deserved to win here. When it comes to open-air sport, you have to live with the weather conditions. The heavy rain meant the landing hill was very slippery. I think the decision to abandon the competition was the right one.”

In just a few weeks time, on 14 May 2010, the Red Bull X-Fighters will get their chance for revenge at the second World Tour stop directly in front of the world-famous Sphinx in Giza, Egypt. Further stops in Moscow (RUS), Madrid (ESP), London (GBR) and Rome (ITA) complete the World Tour 2010.

MORE ELEMENTS OF ELEMENTS

On this part of the filming of ELEMENTS I headed out to a remote riding location in eastern Montana and had no I idea what to expect. I was all alone, and I slept in a tent. Normally sleeping in a tent is no big deal, but It got down to 15 degrees one night and It was late enough in the season that I rarely saw another person. The spot was full of super fun single track and trail riding, and I kept finding new jumps everywhere I looked. This is just a tease of the actual segment from the movie. Ask your local bike shop to get ELEMENTS from Impact video, or just buy it HERE.

ROBBIE MADDISON CORINTH CANAL JUMP IN GREECE

28-year-old Australian, Robbie Maddison is always looking to go bigger. In years past, Maddo has completed a number of awesome jumps that would have made pioneering stuntman Evel Knievel proud. In 2007 and 2008 Maddison set three world records for distance jumped on a motorcycle, all the way to 107 metres (350 feet). In 2009 he celebrated New Years Eve in Las Vegas by jumping up 30 metres (98 feet high) onto the Arc de Triomph in front of Paris Las Vegas, and then jumped back down to ground level. Also in 2009, Maddo backflipped the Tower Bridge over the Thames River while the drawbridge was open! Now this….
Many Daredevils have wanted to jump across the Corinth Canal. A huge gap that is as wide as it is deep. The Australian was the first to succeed. Riding a Honda service 500 (2 Stroke) Maddison rode through a turn-filled approach past a pool, across a soccer field, and past a chicken coop to get up to his launch speed of around 80 mph. On Thursday morning (around 8am Local Time) Robbie Maddison made his jump. At the peek hight of his jump, Maddison was over 300 feet above the canals surface and had to clear over 270 ft. Ramp to ramp, so crazy…..
